What exactly is Functional Medicine and how does this relate to Nutritional Therapy?
You might have heard of the term ‘Functional Medicine’ and wondered what this means or how it can help you. Functional Medicine is a systems biology model which we refer to as ‘individualised and client-centred’. Functional Medicine also focuses on the root cause of the illness or health concern rather than focusing on the symptom.
Nutritional Therapy often adapts the Functional Medicine approach and uses aspects of it to address nutritional balance and help support individuals towards maintaining health. Nutritional Therapy practitioners assess the client’s health and nutritional status by piecing together the client's health history, current symptoms, genetic data (if relevant) and any clinical test results to identify nutritional imbalances and how these could be contributing towards an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This is then followed by a personalised nutrition and lifestyle programme that is unique for that individual client where specific nutrition and lifestyle recommendations are put forward to help enhance your well-being.

How do I sign up for Nutritional Therapy at Worcester University
If you are interested in an appointment with us, we would love to hear from you. All we ask is that you complete the client contact form and nutritional therapy questionnaire and return it to nutritionaltherapyclinic@worc.ac.uk
Once we have these forms returned and a space becomes available you will be assigned a student Nutritional Therapist who will contact you to arrange an appointment and, in the meantime, will review the information you have provided to base their research on your case and put forward an agreed plan of action. We acknowledge the questionnaire is long, however it is important that we get as much information as we can from you to fully understand your past and current health details so we can support and guide you to make sustained changes in enhancing your health and well-being.
Appointments are available on Wednesdays and Fridays and some occasional Saturdays during Semester times.
Client Testimonial
"I received two consultations with a student Nutritional Therapist to address some symptoms I experience from my hypothyroidism after trying various diets and supplements over the years which didn't work.
I feel the student Nutritional Therapist provided a highly personalised plan of recommendations for me to try from our first consultation and really listened to the important changes I wanted to see.
I admit I was sceptical but after following the recommendations for well over a month I saw some significant results in my energy and mood as well as my hair and digestion.
Some of the small changes, supplements, swaps and substitutes I would never have considered I felt made a difference, I was no longer experiencing daily fatigue and anxiety which allowed me to go to the gym more frequently than I was before.
I feel very relieved to see my symptoms improve as a result of and pleased that this has helped me in a multitude of ways. I will definitely be continuing the recommendations in the future!
Thank you!"
