"I'm really thrilled by all of the opportunities I have had whilst studying, I couldn't be more set for the industry; I've had experience on professional film sets, offers from London film companies and my debut film has so far been really successful."

Teaching and assessment

Teaching and assessment

The University places emphasis on enabling students to develop the independent learning capabilities that will equip you for lifelong learning and future employment, as well as academic achievement. A mixture of independent study, teaching and academic support through the personal academic tutoring system enables you to reflect on progress and build up a profile of skills, achievements and experiences that will enable you to flourish.

Animation at Worcester encompasses 2D traditional and digital animation, stop motion and claymation and 3D CGI for games, animation and film. Students also gain skills in editing, sound, compositing, concept art for games and animation, VFX techniques and creative concept generation. The course thus aims to offer you the realistic prospect of graduating as a competent practitioner in all areas of this still developing discipline. Alongside placing strong emphasis on nurturing your practice as an animator, it supports you to gain solid, foundational understanding of relevant history and theory. It integrates live projects into year-long modules of study to enable you to experience real, studio-based production in support of your preparation for professional work.

Filmmaking offers opportunities to explore a broad range of film forms and cultures, including fiction and documentary forms and commercial and experimental production. You can specialise as you progress through the course and, if you wish, tailor your studies to focus on career specialisms including producing, directing, sound, cinematography, post-production, and visual effects. The craft skills of filmmaking are integral to your learning throughout and you are encouraged to experiment and explore your talents towards developing your own creative 'voice'. Filmmaking is characterised by its practical approach to learning (you learn through making), by the value that it places on nurturing creative individuality and by its encouragement of a critically reflective approach.
