¹ú²úÊÓƵ to take on England Pan-Disability Cricket Team

The 40-over game, to be held at Ombersley Cricket Club on the 19th September, will see the elite England players from three disability groups (physical disability, learning disability and hearing impairment/deaf) take on a non-disability team from the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ.

The England team will include ¹ú²úÊÓƵ graduates Will Flynn, and James Nordin, who is currently the Middlesex Disability Cricket captain.

Ian Martin MBE is the Head of Disability Cricket at the ECB and has an honorary degree from the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ.

Ian said: “We are delighted to further our relationship with the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ by accepting the invitation to play in this fixture at Ombersley Cricket Club.”

He added: “The University has been a very supportive partner to the ECB in the delivery of international disability cricket over recent years, most recently in June this year when the England and India Deaf teams used the University as a base during their T20 series.”

He said: “The fixture will bring to a close a busy summer of disability cricket, and our players will look forward to challenging themselves against the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ’s best cricketers.”

Craig Williams is the course leader for the Integrated Masters in Cricket Coaching and Management at the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ and is one of the organisers of the match. He said: “The game further strengthens the excellent relationship between the University and the England and Wales Cricket Board.”

He continued: “The University and ECB have worked closely over the years to support the development of disability cricket, with a number of international fixtures and competitions in Worcester and teams basing themselves with us at the University for these games.”

The ¹ú²úÊÓƵ has developed a truly inclusive approach to sport education and participation.
