¹ú²úÊÓƵ Strengthens Partnership with Kidderminster Harriers FC
Thursday, 12 November 2020
The ¹ú²úÊÓƵ has significantly strengthened its relationship with Kidderminster Harriers Football Club and its support for the Club’s educational work through sponsorship of its Senior Academy.
The Senior Academy comprises almost 200 players, representing no less than nine teams, who participate in the Club’s vibrant further education and higher education programmes, with the latter courses accredited by the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ.
It aims to increase the opportunities available for students to continue to develop their academic studies alongside competitive football. The programmes are delivered by Birmingham Metropolitan College. The degree programme is intended to provide a playing pathway for talented players giving them a full-time training and playing timetable alongside their studies, bridging the gap between leaving the KHFC Junior Academy and first team football.
As part of the sponsorship deal, the playing shirts of the Senior Academy teams will bear the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ logo for the 2020-21 season.
Paul Biggerstaff, Commercial Manager of Kidderminster Harriers, said: “We have a fantastic relationship with the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ and their main sponsorship of our Senior Academy further cements the partnership. The University is one of the largest businesses in the region and we are excited to continue working closely with them in terms of both football and education.”
Mick Donovan, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor and Head of School of Sport and Exercise Science at ¹ú²úÊÓƵ, said: “The University places a strong focus on our local community and to ensuring everyone has access to education so to invest in and associate with one of the leading football clubs in the Midlands is a natural path, particularly given the existing link between the two organisations. We are proud to sponsor the Senior Academy and support the work it does to ensure that elite sport can be combined with education, and we look forward to continuing to develop the relationship.”
