An entrepreneurial student was inspired to start his own business after his mother suggested he and his housemates needed to hire a cleaner.
When Gabriel Pereira's mother made the off-the-cuff remark about the untidiness of his student house, she probably expected it to go in one ear and out the other.
But instead, Gabriel had a light-bulb moment and is now running his own cleaning business, for students, landlords and businesses.
"I started looking in to getting a cleaner for our student house," he said. "But I found that many of the companies just didn't respond or were really over-subscribed. So I thought why not set up my own?"
Gabriel, who is studying for a degree in Human Nutrition at the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ established FINECLEAN, offering bespoke cleaning services whilst providing unparalleled customer service.
"As a student myself, I know that having a cleaner is a luxury," said the 20-year-old. "And that is why I've created packages specifically aimed at students which won't break the bank.
"As a student, living away from home for the first time, cleaning isn't always to top of your agenda. My mum was horrified when she came to visit my student house. She suggested we should invest in a cleaner, and at first I thought yeah that's a good idea. But the more I looked in to it, I spotted a gap in the market and thought "I could do that"."
Gabriel, from Cowley in Oxford, started the business in January and in his first six months has secured two major contracts with local businesses.
"My aim is to have 15 commercial companies on my books by the end of the year," he said. "Plus have a good client-base of local students and landlords."
Gabriel, a former pupil at Oxford Spires Academy, is now considering switching his degree to study Business in the hope it will help him further his business.
He added: "I would like to thank God for the doors and opportunities that he has opened and created for FINECLEAN and myself. I would also like to thank my parents for the constant support they have provided."
