A ¹ú²úÊÓƵ student was named the ‘Ann Shuttleworth Rising Star’ at the recent Nursing Times Awards.
Amy Turton currently works as a learning disability (RNLD) nurse with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, while also studying for a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University.
Her unswerving dedication to her patients and team particularly impressed the judges for the awards, who said that she is “a true advocate for patients” who ensures the voice of the most vulnerable is heard. They added that she is an “inspiration” for the next generation of learning disability nurses.
Amy said: “What a privilege and honour to have won the Ann Shuttleworth Rising Star Award. I feel so valued, appreciated, and supported by my team and everyone around me. This award shines a light on the learning disability nursing profession and highlights the value of our work.
“We are a highly skilled and dynamic bunch of nurses, and it means everything for me to represent and champion my colleagues. I really hope this award encourages others to share their projects and successes, to get the recognition that the profession so rightly deserves. Here's to inspiring our future nursing workforce.”
Amy is in the third and final year of her studies at the University.
“It has been a fabulous journey so far,” she said. “I have been supported and pushed massively outside of my comfort zone and this has enabled me to advance my skills and practice as a learning disability nurse in ways that I never imagined possible. When I look back over the last two and a half years, I am proud of the new skills I have developed and how much I have learnt.
“I have been supported by an outstanding ACP MSc academic team at the University and a wonderful personal tutor (Matt Harris), who has inspired me, encouraged me and ultimately believed in me.”
“I am grateful for the amazing experiences and opportunities that this course has given me,” she added. “I am excited to finish my course next year and start my new role as ACP Nurse.”
