A ¹ú²úÊÓƵ graduate has become the youngest Worcestershire Poet Laureate.
Twenty-three-year-old Rhianna Levi won the competition to become the County’s Poet Laureate for 2022/23.
“It feels amazing to be appointed, especially at just 23 years old,” she said “I was certainly not expecting to get to the final, let along win the competition as there are so many amazing and talented poets who applied, and I was up against fierce competition.”
Rhianna completed a degree in English Literature at the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ before going onto complete her PGCE with QTS in Secondary English.
She has recently finished her PGCert in Tutoring and Coaching alongside studying for a Master’s in Education.
Rhianna said her confidence and identity had grown by being involved in the Worcestershire poetry and spoken word scene and now wants to build further on this work.
“My hopes and plans for my year ahead involve bringing the Worcestershire community together more through collaborations with businesses and educational establishments,” she said. “I also want to ensure that the spoken word/poetry scene becomes even more inclusive for everyone of all backgrounds.”
“As a young teacher and tutor, I think it is especially important to inspire young voices and build their confidence in showcasing their art”
In September, Rhianna will begin her EdD doctorate degree focusing on PSHE and Citizenship as a cross-curricular subjects, where she will continue to enjoy being a cover teacher in a range of schools across Worcestershire.
