The Worcester Wolves have begun preparations for the inaugural season of the British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s Premier League and can today announce their first signing.
Following the announcement of the league launch In April 2021, the Wolves have been working tirelessly behind the scenes in preparation for their debut in the WPL.
With that, the club are pleased to announce the signing of Sarah Hope, who takes the first roster spot in what will be a history making season for the club, and the league.
Sarah, who is a classification 4.5 athlete, joins the franchise from the Coventry Wheelchair Basketball Academy (CWBA), which she joined in 2010, and has since won six league titles across the Women’s League D1, National League D2 and D1 South.
In February 2017, Sarah earned her first call up for the Great Britain national team, going on to become a full time GB Athlete. In 2018, she won a silver medal at the World Championships and has continued to be a part of the GB Women’s squad.
Sarah brings a wealth of experience, both on and off the court, and she will be looking to make an impact with the team this season in the Women’s Premier League.
On Signing for the Worcester Wolves, Sarah said: “I'm really excited to be playing in the inaugural season of WPL with Worcester Wolves. I used to watch the Wolves BBL team play and now being back here, on this court, seems like a coming home. I can't think of a better club or group of girls to share this experience with.”
Worcester Wolves Managing Director, Mick Donovan, said he was excited by the announcement of the team’s first signing. “We are delighted to welcome Sarah to the Wolves,” he said. “Already, she has shown leadership both on and off the court and we are sure that she will be an integral part of the team and very popular with our Wolves fans.”
The League will be the first of its kind for women’s wheelchair basketball in the world, and the very first professional para-sport league in the UK.
The ¹ú²úÊÓƵ will be one of four High-Performance Partnerships, which also include Cardiff Metropolitan University, Loughborough University and the University of East London, that will each be home to a women’s premier league team.
