Tom Stevenson
Graduation is the culmination of a highly successful year for Tom Stevenson, after making TV history on Channel 4’s Countdown.
Tom, who graduates from the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ with a degree in English Literature with Media & Culture, hit the headlines in October 2022 when he recorded the show’s highest ever score of 154 after cracking the infamous Countdown conundrum in just three seconds.
He went on to win the series and was narrowly beaten in the Champion of Champions show.
Reflecting on the experience, he said: “The past 12 months have been surreal - and busy! Both in terms of university, and the attention that I received from being on Countdown. I think it's fair to say that I got slightly distracted from uni-related things when I was filming but was able to get my head down once my episodes had aired.”
Tom from Burford, near Tenbury Wells said he was delighted to be graduating and is now looking for roles in the media industry.
“I'm really looking forward to graduating,” he said. “I'm very pleased with the 2:1 that I got, especially considering my A-Level grades weren't originally good enough to make it onto my course, so to leave with the classification that I got is something that I'm really proud of. Secondly, I'm also looking forward to graduation day itself. It'll be nice to see everybody again, and celebrate the hard work that we've put in.
“Admittedly, it's been a bit of an untypical university experience, due to learning online for most of first year, but overall, I've enjoyed my time studying different topics on my course at the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ and am thankful for the support I've received from my lecturers.”
Tom said there may be another quiz show appearance in the future, although he couldn’t give nay further details just yet!
The University’s annual autumn Graduation Ceremonies will take place as planned from September 12-14 in the beautiful and historic Worcester Cathedral followed by celebration receptions at the City Campus. No Worcester graduates have been affected by the marking and assessment boycott.
